Finally we're in the water and racing...
Was it just us, or was everyone a little late to get launched this year? It's currently blowing a near gale outside so this seemed just the opportunity to launch the new 2006 design for http://www.falmouth-sailing.co.uk/.
The 2006 sailing season is now well under way, with the majority of boats back in the water and most club racing into the second series. The Cornwall Offshore Group Series has already had its first weekend race of the season - race report and pictures can be found in the news section. The impressive new COGS website http://www.cogsracing.org.uk/ is live - be sure to check it out for more information on the COGS.
With this weeks weather August may seem a long way off, but Henri Lloyd Falmouth Week, Dinghy Week and The West Briton Falmouth Classics preparations are in full swing with the 2006 website live and a another full program of events planned ashore...www.falmouthweek.co.uk has all the details of what is sure to be another exciting week in the sailing calendar.
It has been great to watch the Carrick Roads increasingly filled with boats at the weekends and there has been the usual growing stream of cruisers to-ing and fro-ing from Fowey and the Helford River.
As always we are on the search for contributions to the site - be it a cruising log, race report, sponsored sailing event, or just a good spot to anchor for lunch - get involved - sign up and let us know your news!
well that's about it for now, so until next time, good winds and safe sailing.....Ed.

A Promising forecast for COGS 2 - St Mawes - Eddystone - Fowey |
|
Racing -
Cornwall Offshore Group Series
|
|
Thursday, 15 June 2006 |
|
With less than a week before the next COGS Race the previously forecast winds appear to have lightened with the forecast now for light S to SW winds and a mainly sunny day. This should still give the competitors enough wind for a great days sailing even if it is a little lighter than forecasts had previously indicated. We all know how difficult it is to forecast local weather a long time ahead...
Sailing Instructions for both the COGS 2 Race and the following day's Arwyn Trophy Race in St Austell Bay have been posted on the COGS Website so download and print a couple of spare copies ...
This race has suffered in the last two years from very light winds, so hopefully this year will break the patern and give all competitors a great days racing. It's run by St Mawes Sailing Club (Click Here for thier website) and is a pursuit race, starting from St Mawes, around Hands Deep Mark, just to the west of Eddystone Lighthouse, and back to Fowey.
Afterwards there will be a dinner and prize giving at the Royal Fowey Yacht Club.
On the Sunday there is a race in St Austell Bay for he Arwyn Trophy which will finish off Dodman Point allowing boats heading west to continue straight back to thier home port.
For more infotmation about the long range forecast visit www.metcheck.com .

In spite of the rush to get to the start, Jaws were first round the windward mark, to then progress down the fleet as other boats passed them in the J fleet. In a 15-knot Northerly wind, on a great sunny evening, Jabba and Just Wind fought closely for first place. In a light spinnaker run to Black Rock and beat back to NorthBank, a number of boats changed positions. With a final burst of wind for the evening, the reach into Trefusis from West Narrows, via Vilt, saw close racing. At the line Jabba, led Just Wind with Juggs in third. |

Testing Conditions for the Gull Rock Manacles Race |
|
Racing -
Flushing Sailing Club
|
|
Friday, 02 June 2006 |
|
Bank Holiday Monday provided some very testing conditions for Flushing Sailing Club's annual Gull Rock - Manacles Race held each year on Spring Bank Holiay Monday.
With the wind blowing strongly from the NNW around a dozen boats congregated on the club start line at Flushing Quay to race in two classes. The largest group was the IRC fleetwith 10 boats ranging from two projection 762s up to a J109 from Helford River Sailing Club while the PY fleet had only a few entries, probably due to the testing conditions which did not favour the smaller cruising oriented boats that would normally make up the bulk of te PY fleet.
